While The Big Top Burns

Last weekend Tom and I had a jolly jaunt to Skipton and Hebden Bridge. We had tickets to Crafts in the Pens so we toddled off for a day's adventure over that way.

I love Crafts in the Pens. It's full of fabulous makers and artists selling their wondrous makes. The quality of the makers is top notch, but I do recommend you wrap up warm in order to fend off the cold of the auction house. We bought far too many things that were essential at the time, but possibly we got a bit carried away.

I bought a lovely wool snood from Beth Connor which was perfect timing given the snow this week. We bought a beautiful oak and metal box from Big Black House Design Co to contain the matches required for Tom's never ending candle obsession. It was only when I got home and looked at the website that I found out her name is Maxine and she studied at UCLan. Small world... Our next purchase was a fabulous lino print octopus from HuPa Linocuts printed on handmade Butanese paper.. I shall have fun framing that so that we can fully appreciate the paper as well as the print. But our purchase of the day must surely be the limited edition print from Matthew Ellwood, entitled 'While The Big Top Burns'. We both loved it too much to leave it behind! It now hangs proudly on the wall in the den where we can see it on a daily basis.

After our impromptu shopping spree in Skipton, we headed over to Hebden Bridge for a coffee and a tromp around the fabulous wee town that is full of independent shops. We dropped lucky and found it was market day too. Yay! We stopped off in Heart Gallery and found some work from Matthew Ellwood in there along with some fabulous ceramics by Qi Fang Colbert and Jillian Riley. It was here I discovered the work of Demelsa Haughton. I could have bought so many of her prints, but I settled on a couple of cards and a print of two odd socks huddled together.

With a wee stop off to purchase a turmeric loaf for friend Debs, and shufty in Ruby Shoesday, our trip was complete.

Feeling thoroughly uplifted and smiley we headed back to the car for a picturesque drive home with all our spoils. What a pink day!
